About

Our Approach

Safari begins with understanding. We explain how it works — then you decide where to go.

Safari.today exists because choosing a safari is harder than it should be. Most information is written to sell a particular camp or package. We wanted a place that explains how African safari actually works — the kinds of safari, the seasons, the countries, the costs — so travelers can choose with confidence.

What we believe

  • Field-written. Our guides come from time on the ground and from the guides, camp teams and conservationists who work there.
  • Independent. No paid placements. We recommend what we would choose ourselves, and we say so when something isn’t right for everyone.
  • Understanding first. How a safari works matters more than where you book it. A walking safari and a game drive in the same park are completely different trips.
  • Honest about money. We talk openly about what safaris cost and why — and how to get better value.

How we’re funded

Safari.today is free to read. When we help you plan a trip, we may earn a commission from the camps and operators we book — the same rates you would pay booking direct. No one pays to appear on this site. Safari.today is also a sister company of the Zambian Outdoor Adventure Company, which runs diving and adventure trips in Lusaka and on Lake Tanganyika; we say so wherever we mention it.

Why the Lower Zambezi

We cover all the major safari countries, but there is one place we know exceptionally well: Zambia’s Lower Zambezi. We return there more than anywhere else, and we think it shows what safari can be when it is built around a river.
